Many potential model railroaders do not have the room or economics to put together a model railway and the recent rash of pizza layouts and mini dioramas supports this. Realistically, how long will it be before one is fed up running a loco on 24 inches of track! There is no better place to keep your layout than at the clubhouse?

The model railway club would be the most obvious place to resolve many of the problems confronting the new young railway modeller. The membership fee is the only initial expense.  Skills in any aspect of the hobby can be learned at the same time as using the club’s layout and equipment. The majority of members are happy allowing others to operate their stock.

Computers in Model Railroading

Computers are not just for staying in touch and sourcing material. You can also operate and even build your own digital railway. Let’s face it….’train sim.’ is not going to go away and we may lose more and more to the digital world. The fact is that as graphics become better and better, some may prefer to drive their own digital loco on a Virtual Railway rather than actually take part in rebuilding the actual line!

There is an application (APP) that turns your iPhone™ or iPod Touch™ Android Phone into a handheld controller for your model railroad bringing model railroading to the iPhone and bringing the iPhone’s ease of use to the world of model trains.

Java Model Railroad Interface (JMRI)

The JMRI model railroad programming and control freeware us a great boon to the digital railroading enthusiast. The JMRI project is building tools for model railroad computer control. JMRI is intended as a jumping-off point for hobbyists who want to control their layouts from a computer without having to create an entire system from scratch.

Wireless Model Railroad Control With an iPhone – iPod Touch

Are you looking for wireless control options for your DCC equipped model railroad? Why not consider using an iPhone or iPod Touch to control your railroad. read more from Tony’s Trains

With TouchCab you can follow your trains around your layout without having to worry about plugging and unplugging a wired device as you move along.

A progressive, modern and state of the art club!

Many quite large model railway clubs have just not kept up with the internet revolution. A good example of an IT aware club is the Lindsay and District Model Railway Club which has a comprehensive and updated website including and online forum, a classified ad section, and a club news blog. The club publishes a regular newsletter both on paper and on the net. Apart from being able to “Play Trains” on a club layout, The L.&.D.M.R. offers valuable social skills, and education, learning about electrics, carpentry, DIY, photography, digital systems for the brave, history of railways and valuable modelling help and advice.

Our club layout offers both conventional Direct Current (DC) and Digital Command Control (DCC) operations.

DC Control provides a direct current (DC) to the rails and train speed is controlled by varying the voltage. You can run more than one train by setting up power blocks around the layout. These blocks are controlled by toggle switches on a panel.

Digital Command Control (DCC) is a standard for a system to operate model railways digitally. When equipped with Digital Command Control, locomotives on the same electrical section of track can be independently controlled. The DCC protocol is defined by the Digital Command Control Working group of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). The NMRA has trademarked the term DCC, so while the term Digital Command Control is sometimes used to describe any digital model railway control system, strictly speaking it refers to NMRA DCC.

Where do my membership dues go?

Club revenue is derived from two principal sources, membership dues, currently set at $100 per year, and income from our annual train show.

The membership dues are calculated to cover the rental cost of our club rooms, leaving the net revenue from our Annual Train Show to pay for such items as our liability insurance, the post office box, the web site, postage, printing, office supplies, and all repairs, supplies, acquisitions for the club “H0” and “N” layouts.

Another significant outlay is the club-approved cost of hauling the layout(s) to out-of-town shows.

As a requirement of incorporation, two club members, appointed by the general membership, audit the club books each year, and financial reports are made to the membership at every membership meeting.

Junior Member Restrictions

Junior Membership is open to individuals under eighteen (18) years of age on condition that such individual is accompanied by a parent or other person *in loco parentis at all times. A Junior Member may attend Club events and General Membership Meetings but shall not hold office and has no voice or vote at meetings. A Junior Member pays forty percent (40%) of an Active Member’s dues, rounded to the nearest dollar. (As amended Nov. 29, 2018)

* The term in loco parentisLatin for “in the place of a parent”[1] refers to the legal responsibility of a person or organization to take on some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent.
