Thanks to the members for their help in dismantling the layout, loading the layout on the trailer, setting up the layout on Friday night, working the show on Saturday and/or Sunday, and bringing the layout back to the clubhouse. We would especially like to thank our Junior Members, Benji and Jakob Muller, for all the crawling under the layout connecting cables and adjusting levelers, thus saving the backs of us seniors.

Without the team working of our members we would not have had a very successful showing at Whitby.

There was very good attendance at the show and they all expressed their love for the club’s effort in the detailed work on our layout. Many said it was the best at the show!

May be an image of 1 person and smilingIt is with great sadness that we share that a charter member of the L&DMR, Don Hudson, passed away suddenly on Thursday October 26th, 2023, at his residence in Lindsay.

Currently, the club has no further details as to what happened nor funeral arrangements. He was a great musician. Back in the day, he played the same venues as Ian & Sylvia Tyson, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Gordon Lightfoot, and others. He was a retired banker. He modeled R/C boats, R/C airplanes and trains.

For many years he was treasurer of the L&DMR. He was a gentle man with a great sense of humour. He will be extremely missed by his close friends at the L&DMR club.
On behalf of the club
Alan Fennell.

Charles at Beeton, Ont. end-of-steel 1999. Andrea Percy photo It is with great sadness that I inform all of you of the passing of Honorary L&DMR member and renowned author Charles Cooper. I have no details of any funeral arrangements at this time but I will pass on any information I get.

Charles has been an honorary member of our club since approximately 2014 and was the club treasurer prior to that time from about 2005 to 2011. Charles authored a number of books on local railway history and co-authored books with other well known Canadian authors. He ran an extensive web site on railway heritage and history with many sidebars to things like show schedules, museums, model railway manufacturers and so forth.

I would like to extend condolences to Charles wife and family from all present and past members of the L&DMR.

Regards,

Eric Potter

This is a question we get asked a lot.
It goes along the lines of:

  • “I have found this track in the attic … ”,
  • “there is this model railway in the basement that belonged to my (fill in relationship), and we have to get it out of there … ”
  • “I have come across these pieces of … “
